Tanner, Malatare successful in transition to college hoops
The Mission Valley has a handful of area standouts extending their athletic endeavors at the collegiate level on the hardwood of men’s basketball. The so-called multi-headed monster of back-to-back state C champion Arlee Warrior has a tandem who have joined forces at Northern Idaho College in Couer d’Alene. These are Tyler Tanner and Phillip Malatare, whose combined prep career point productivity exceeded 3,000 points. Tanner transfers from Dawson Community College, while Malatare will be entering his freshman season. Both accrued multiple all-tournament and all-state accolades as well as garnered MVP votes for their caliber of play in their state tournament appearances.

Ronan tennis' top hitter returns
WHITEFISH — The Ronan tennis teams went into battle against Whitefish and Bigfork with a short roster. They didn’t come out with any team wins, but they were armed for the first time this season with senior Brit Courville, and she didn’t let them down.

POLSON — Ralph C. Gipe, 88, of Polson died on Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at his residence surrounded by his family. Ralph was born Sept. 7, 1916 in Cedaredge, Colo., to L.A. and Sophia Gipe. At the age of three his family moved to a farm in Valley View near Polson.
