Six people and one dog were rescued Saturday evening by Lake County Search and Rescue after three sailboats beached on Bull Island in Flathead Lake during a severe storm with winds upwards of 50 mph. Only minor injuries were reported by the sailors on board, although some boats sustained damage to their hulls and engines.

Dozen area players take fourth at Western Nationals

The question sometimes arises as to how well Mission Valley area softball might actually stack up against the rest of the West? With respect to this season, that answer merits a better than average rating given some local softball talent performances at the Western Nationals in Spokane this past week. Among 16 teams competing in the 16U age division, the Northwest comprised Montana Mustangs would make the final four, ultimately placing fourth. After sweeping their pool play set of games, the Stangs were surprised by the Spokane Stealth on Thursday, who relegated them to consolation bracket action thereafter. On Friday, the Mustangs reeled off four straight wins as they advanced to Saturday’s final four action, dispatching teams from Metropolitan areas with population bases in the hundreds of thousands, or in the case of Phoenix, topping a million plus.

Thousands Swarm to Courthouse Lawn for Art Festival

Tents of various sizes were interspersed among the huge shady trees on the courthouse lawn and within the tents were the artistic fruits of labor of a wide array of artists. Painters, photographers, glass workers, wood workers, sculptors, pottery makers and other artisans gathered at the 48th Annual Sandpiper Art Festival on Saturday to display and sell their creations. Ronan grad shot dead in Minnesota

Police investigating a report of an “unconscious” male in a park in Maple Grove, a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota, found a man dead of gunshot wounds in the early morning of July 30. The man was later identified as Dayton Leonard Rossetti Carter, 26, a 2012 graduate of Ronan High School, news reports indicate. Public reports of hearing four gunshots coincide with the estimated time of death between 11 p.m. and midnight, July 29.

The other woman was referred to as a Jackie Kennedy look alike. However, it was Anne Marie who won Paul McCann’s interest when she showed her traits of generosity, appreciation, empa-thy, by offering to pay her share of the gas expenses. Anne Marie McCann was impressed by Paul’s ambition, his devotion to the Catholic faith. However, it was Paul’s great sense of humor that caused her to say yes, because she knew Paul McCann would never bore her.
