A trapper by the name of “Teaspoon” finished first in the annual Trapper’s Run – a contest of grit and physical stamina held during the 24th anniversary of the Fort Connah Rendezvous, June 14-15 at the historic outpost north of St. Ignatius.

Diane Ruth Cline-Johnson, age 68, of Polson, died Sunday, June 22, at her home in Turtle Lake surrounded by family. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 26, and funeral service is at 10 a.m. Friday, June 27, all at The Lake Funeral Home and Crematory in Polson. Burial will take place after the service at Lakeview Cemetery followed by a reception at the First Presbyterian Church.

On June 19, 1865, nearly 100 days after the Civil War ended, the Army of the United States freed all the nearly 250,000 slaves in Texas, the last state to abolish involuntary servitude. An abbreviation of this memorable event became “Juneteenth”. Soldiers died to make men free, and to keep us free to this day. Be awake. Stay alert.
