Building Blitz: Community comes together to build Jake's House
From 30 to 40 volunteers were swarming the building site for Jake's House the weekend of Aug. 9-11. They were carrying boards, sweeping concrete, putting in floor joists, wheeling equipment around the site and installing a subfloor.

Bill advances to enhance support for school infrastructure
House Bill 515, which hit the House floor April 4, calls for a one-time transfer of $75 million from the General Fund surplus to a special school facilities trust in order to elevate annual interest earnings.

Firefighters respond to house fire and bale blaze
Polson Rural Fire District responded to two fires last week. The first, on June 19, was near Buffalo Bridge where firefighters found 110 round bales fully engulfed in flames. The second was Friday when a three-story house on Dogwood Lane north of Polson was reportedly struck by fire.

Commissioners hold hearing on proposed construction notice
The Lake County Commissioners are holding a public hearing today on a resolution that would require property owners to file a “notice of new construction” with the planning department. The proposed fee is $5 if filed before the project begins, and goes up to $1,000 if filed after construction begins.

Polson man accused of assaulting officer
A Polson man is accused of punching a Ronan Police officer who responded to a report of a drunk and disorderly person at the local hospital. Gavin Dean Knutson, 20, entered a plea of not guilty in District Court in Polson Jan. 2 to felony assault on a peace or judicial officer and misdemeanor criminal mischief.
