Fort Connah Rendezvous is a step back in time
A trapper by the name of “Teaspoon” finished first in the annual Trapper’s Run – a contest of grit and physical stamina held during the 24th anniversary of the Fort Connah Rendezvous, June 14-15 at the historic outpost north of St. Ignatius.
Tribes lift ban on open debris burning
Fire officials with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Division of Fire announced they will lift the ban on debris/outdoor burning within the Flathead Reservation boundary as of Friday, June 20.
Registration open for Buffalo Run
St. Luke Community Healthcare sponsors the 42nd annual Buffalo Run on Saturday, July 12, as part of the St. Ignatius Good Old Days celebration.

Peter Walther, 95
Peter Eugene Walther, died on June 20, 2025, wore many hats during his 95 years. A memorial service and reception will be held at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, 130 S. 6th St. E. in Missoula, on July 11 at 10:30 a.m.

Ailport sentenced to 110 years for driving truck into house
A Polson man, convicted at trial of attempted deliberate homicide, arson and criminal mischief, was sentenced in District Court in Polson June 12 to a total of 110 years in the Montana State Prison.

Barbara White, 88
Barbara Jeanette Williamson White, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025, at the age of 88, at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Polson. A graveside service will be held Sunday, July 13, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the Polson Cemetery for family and close friends. A celebration of Barbara’s life will follow at 2 p.m. at the Polson Elder Center, 701 1st Street East.

Scammon admits to stealing church day-care funds
A Dixon woman admitted to embezzling money from a church-run daycare and trying to cover it up. Kelly Lynn Scammon, 51, entered a plea of guilty in District Court in Polson July 2 to felony theft by embezzlement and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.

Diane Cline-Johnson, 68
Diane Ruth Cline-Johnson, age 68, of Polson, died Sunday, June 22, at her home in Turtle Lake surrounded by family. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 26, and funeral service is at 10 a.m. Friday, June 27, all at The Lake Funeral Home and Crematory in Polson. Burial will take place after the service at Lakeview Cemetery followed by a reception at the First Presbyterian Church.
St. Ignatius Seniors: How to beat the heat
The National Institute on Aging reports the elderly are particularly vulnerable to high heat temperatures, which can put people at risk for fatigue, edema, heat rash, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To lower your risk of heat related illness, drink fluids, avoid alcohol and caffeine.
Fire causes Rocky Point area evacuations
Evacuations were underway late Tuesday afternoon for Masumola Lane/Rocky Shores off of Rocky Point Road due to a wildfire, but by 6 p.m. the fire was knocked down and firefighters were mopping up, according to Lake County Office of Emergency Management. The evacuation order was lifted, and fire crews were remaining on the scene overnight to monitor the blaze. In addition, thunderstorms that rolled through western Montana last week ignited four fires in the Ravalli and Arlee areas. The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes reports that all were caused by lightning.
