Robert H. Schall
Robert H. Schall, Jr., 63, from Arlee, passed away Friday, March 21, 2014, after a two year battle with cancer. He was born June 25, 1950. He spent his entire life in Arlee, most of it on the Schall Ranch. His rodeo career is legendary. He was an accomplished bareback rider, team roper, and steer wrestler, winning countless championships in the PRCA, NRA, and other regional associations. He traveled extensively throughout the US and Canada and on occasion to Australia. He was an MSU alum, being most proud of his membership on the 1972 NIRA National Championship Men’s Rodeo Team and of being a member of the MSU Athletic Hall of Fame. He won the coveted PRCA Linderman Award in 1986. He was a past president of the Northern Rodeo Association. He was recently inducted into the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame and is listed on the Montana Rodeo Wall of Fame at Metra Park in Billings. He was a dear friend and mentor to many. Bob was incredibly proud of being a father to Emily — she was the light of his life. He never missed an opportunity to be with her or support her throughout her youth. He drove many tireless miles to be wherever she may need him.
Glenn Murphy
Glenn Murphy, 87, of St. Ignatius, passed away March 27 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Ronan with his granddaughter by his side. Glenn was born July 12, 1925 in Hardisty, Alberta, to William and Theresa Murphy. He was the youngest of seven children. He married his wife, Patricia Walker, on Nov. 23, 1959 at Fort Macleod in Alberta, Canada. She survives. Also surviving him are his three children, Terrance, Wanda and Ron; nine grandchildren, Tiffani, Jeremy, Walker, Hunter, Christian, Debby, Michael, Alison and Christina; four great-grandchildren, Addessa, Jordan, Logan and Cameron; and several cousins. Glenn was a long-time resident of the Mission Valley. He and his wife started ranching on East Post Creek in 1961, after he had worked for the railroad, DOT and the experimental station. He also served in World War II, stationed in Okinawa. Glenn had a passion for the outdoors. He spent his younger years with a pioneer family, fishing, hunting and trapping. He also spent a lot of time playing music, mostly with a guitar. His favorite time of year was the spring, when all the new baby calves were born. You could always find him either cooking his famous sourdough pancakes for family and friends, or out in the fields doing what he loved. He was active with 4-H, creating the livestock auction with his wife. He also was on the joint county board of control for irrigation and part of the crime stoppers organization. To all he will be remembered as a light hearted practical joker, a family man, a respected member of the community, and a trustworthy friend. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on May 11 at the Catholic Cemetery in Mission. The potluck memorial will be held later this summer on July 2 at Leon Hall in Charlo, due to the family being in town for a reunion. Condolences may be left at fosterfhandcrematory.com.
