Constitutional Road Show explores democracy's foundation
The Montana Constitution Road Show travelled to Polson last Friday, drawing a full house in the North Lake County Library meeting room.
Playing with words
I love words. I love to play. Here is some wordplay of shock and awe:
Luck and hard work lift Charlo barrel racer to the top
Some rodeo people won’t wear a yellow shirt in a rodeo arena and others will only wear a certain “lucky” hat. But for Charlo barrel racer Abby Knight, luck is woven into six braids in her horse’s mane.
Polson Seniors: Beware the Ides of March
“March madness” is a phrase coined from sports telecasters to describe the time of year when the only thing on TV is basketball. I linked the phrase to English folklore: “as mad as a March hare,” although I do not understand why the March hare was so angry. It’s Spring. Those rabbits should be happy.
Polson Seniors: On the cusp of March
March has been described as coming in like a lion and out like a lamb. Although March 19 is the first day of Spring (9:06 p.m. MST), it is okay to say March 20 is the first daylight of Spring.

Satori expands space, offerings
Since she was a Polson Middle School student, Brianna Weivoda has dreamed of a place where people can come to heal and get healthy, and now she has one: Satori Holistic Healing Center.

First "Polson Treasure" award goes to Lee Manicke
Lee Manicke shows up at almost every Polson City Commission meeting, and often attempts to educate the city manager, staff or commissioners on the intricacies of the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district or history of city ordinances. City officials sometimes welcome and sometimes bristle at his input. But at last Wednesday’s commission meeting, Manicke was warmly welcomed and honored with the inaugural Polson Treasure Community Service Award.

Lady Vikings notch two wins
Charlo improved to 4-2 on the season with a 77-43 takedown of Western 14C rival Two Eagle, and went on to triumph against Seeley-Swan.
Rosendale, Daines and the 14th Amendment
Once again, Donald Trump is having his days in court for the multitude of criminal offenses he has committed over the years. Twice impeached, Trump was set free by Republican collaborators in a blow to our democracy.
Polson Seniors: Trouble with time change
I have barely recovered from the last semi-annual time change event. I have enough trouble with the changes of seasons.

Graysen O’Connor: Arlee’s newest rodeo star
Graysen O’Connor, a 13-year-old cowgirl from Arlee, returned from Las Vegas last week with the World Championship title in junior and senior barrel racing. She’s the youngest competitor ever to claim both junior and adult titles at the Indian National Finals Rodeo.

Bats, witches, and clowns, Oh My!
“Monster Mash” by Bobby “Boris” Pickett and the Crypt Kickers rumbled on the sound system, and Beetlejuice was cooking hotdogs on the grill. It was Halloween Trunk or Treat at the Mission Valley Super Oval on North Reservoir Road on Sunday.

New tipping fee causes garbage rift
A brouhaha between Lake County and Republic Services over a fee hike spilled over into the commission chambers and Leader editorial pages recently, with the disposal service accusing the county of “double dipping” by invoicing them for what’s known in the industry as a “tipping fee.”
Time Capsule: Lake raising, CSKT war donation, silly regulation
From the archives of the Flathead Courier, Ronan Pioneer and Mission Valley News – the three weeklies that make the Lake County Leader.

Local history: Old friends share recent books
Last Saturday’s book chat at Ninepipes Museum felt like a rendezvous of old friends, as authors and historians Bob Bigart and Joe McDonald joined Carolyn Corey and Steve Lozar to discuss and sign recent books.

Muddy moto madness at the fairgrounds
The fast and furious world of arena motocross was on full high-octane display Saturday evening at the Polson Fairgrounds.
