Sun finally shining on Spring Mack Days anglers
The fifth weekend of the 2019 Spring Mack Days Fishing Event on Flathead Lake ended on sunny Easter Sunday with 4,145 lake trout entries for the weekend. Friday there were 1,233 entries, Saturday the total came to 1,543, and Sunday’s total was 1,369. Total for the first five weekends is at 23,673. The 2018 Spring Event total after five weekends was at 21,406. There are four more weeks to participate in the event. Anglers can fish Tuesday through Sundays. What's Happening at MVAC 'Learn to Swim' program gets help from Polson Rotary
On the Monday after spring break, the pool at Mission Valley Aquatics and Fitness was filled with third-grade students from Linderman Elementary. Many of the regular patrons and swimmers were startled to hear the laughter and excited voices of students that were supposed to be back at school. These students were starting their second year of swim lessons, and that Monday was the first of eight lessons that they would be receiving over the course of two weeks. The students were divided into small groups of five to seven, based on ability and experience to ensure that each student was getting quality instruction. Most of the third-grade students had taken these lessons last year as second graders, and were excited to be back at the pool again.
Clean Up! Green Up! features Cherry Valley student efforts

Prescribed grass burn today in Lake County
The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Division of Fire Fuels Program will be conducting a prescribed grass burn today, Wednesday, April 24. The burn will be three miles west of U.S. Highway 93 along Leon Road and West Post Creek Road. The burn is 400 acres and is a joint project with the National Bison Range and the CSKT Division of Fire.

Polson Lady Pirate senior striker Ashlee Howell will be extending her athletic career at the collegiate level playing soccer for the University of Providence Argonauts in Great Falls. Howell, who is the youngest of a quartet of sensational soccer siblings, acquired the nickname “Sm-Ashlee” on account of the powerful kick of her bonne boot. Brother Nick played for Rocky Mountain College. Sister Sarah just wrapped up her collegiate soccer career at the University of Providence. Eldest sister Heather entertained multiple offers to play at the collegiate level, but opted to pursue other endeavors.

Drum making at the People's Center
Poeple’s Center in Pablo held its first drum making class in about three years on Wednesday, March 27, and the popular activity wound up being a full class as 20 hand drums were constructed. It was one in a series of “traditional arts” classes at the center through their Cultural Education Program, held on the second and fourth Wednesdays each month.

Local author Maggie Plummer has published a new novel entitled “Bell-Bottom Gypsy: A Jessie Morgan Novel.” The first in a four-book series, the novel is a departure from the author’s two works of historical fiction, “Spirited Away” and “Daring Passage.”

Robert LeRoy McLeod was born on May 25, 1950, to Blanche Mary Saucia and Amos McLeod. Robert passed away on March 15, 2019, at 6 a.m. They took him in their arms and freed him from the pain.
Polson Lady Pirates seek sustained success on diamond
The 2018 rendition of the Polson Lady Pirates (20-6) wrapped up their regular schedule 18-4 that included a 10-0 conference sweep to secure the Northwest division top seed at the State A tournament held in Frenchtown. After a first-round bye, the Lady Pirates outdueled tournament host Frenchtown (2SW) 10-7, fell to eventual champion Belgrade (1C) 8-1 in the championship semifinal, tethered the Lady Golden Eagles of Lewistown (3C) 7-1 in consolation before stumbling against host Frenchtown 9-8 in the loser -akes fourth-place match.

In the Bitterroot last Saturday, the visiting Maidens may not have had to contend with any pesky buzz-bombing insects on account of cooler than usual spring temperatures, but they nevertheless felt the sting of another type of Yellowjacket in the form of the Stevensville softball squad. Trailing by a single run after the first frame, the Yellowjackets plated four in the bottom of the second to take a 5-0 lead.

The event was originally scheduled for March 9, but lingering snow was not conducive to solid footing — resulting in the event being pushed back to the end of March. All proceeds benefit the Polson High School track and field team.
