Lake County District Court roundup
- Jonathan Wayne Snyder pleaded guilty to one count of felony criminal endangerment related to an incident last February. The plea agreement included reduction of the original charge of felony sexual intercourse without consent. Sentencing is scheduled for December 4, 2019. Maximum penalties include up to 10 years in prison and up to a $50,000 fine.
Polson gets grant to prevent school violence
Monday, the Department of Justice announced it has awarded more than $85.3 million to bolster school security — including funding to educate and train students and faculty — and support first responders who arrive on the scene of a school shooting or other violent incident.

At Homecoming, the Polson Lady Pirates got an early goal from Sophia Moderie, then had to stave off multiple challenges by the visiting Bigfork Valkyries to keep themselves in the hunt for a postseason playoff berth. Kyla Heiser turned in a strong defensive performance, diffusing a couple of explosive incursions into the Polson box with bursts of speed and some deft footwork.

Friday during Homecoming, the host Polson Pirates found their hands full contending with the Libby ground game as the visiting Loggers ran the Pirates through the gridiron equivalent of a lumber mill in a 45-6 defeat.

At Whitefish, the visiting Chiefs discovered that Dawg Devin Beale was the real deal as he bulled his way for four scores at their expense. After Beale double dipped into the end zone in the first quarter, Ronan countered with an 11-yard Eric Dolence pass to Matt Victor that put the Chiefs on the scoreboard and pulled them within a single possession.

The Polson volleyball team split its homecoming matches last week, beating Libby and losing to Butte Central.
Mission, Charlo score gridiron football triumphs
At Seeley-Swan in a rescheduled match moved to Saturday, the visiting Bulldogs and the host Blackhawks were knotted at a touchdown apiece entering intermission. In the second half, Kolten Gardipee snared his second TD reception of the game, Troy Matt rushed for two tallies and Layne Spidel added some icing to the cake by tackling Owen Mercado in the end zone for a safety.

At Charlo this past weekend, the visiting Plains Trotters sought to blemish the pristine record of the host Lady Vikings. The match was knotted at one apiece entering the third set, which Charlo secured for a 2-1 advantage.

FWP purchase of Big Arm State Park on track for 2020
Fish, Wildlife and Parks is inching toward securing a permanent recreation easement for Big Arm State Park after legislation passed earlier this year gave the initial OK for the agency to appropriate an estimated $12 million needed to purchase the popular park from the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation.
Flathead Lake sailboats ravaged in weekend storm
Two sailboats fell victim to high winds that walloped the Flathead Valley with gusts of up to 50 mph and waves on Flathead Lake as high as 6 feet. The vessels sank in their slips at Dayton Yacht Harbor, despite the best efforts of local sailors who monitored the fleet throughout the night Saturday when the storm was at its worst.
